THE COMPLEXITY OF THE FUTURE

I often think times gone by
When people were able to bear their lot
I want to say that it is still the same but I cannot lie,
Yet life has placed my surroundings in a bad spot.
Fate seems frightening and cold,
The future coming closer and nearer
This I wish I never had to be told,
The past begins to seem more precious and dearer.
I know that hope is not enough,
To propel me into into life
I keep thinking that the journey must be rough
And troubles will be rife.

Great poem Christina! I can seriously feel what you are trying to portray in this poem, I can feel it creeping out at me with the full force of reality. It seems that you dread the future, and reminisce about the less troublesome past, a time when you felt it was difficult when it actually wasn't so bad... Your choice of words and solemn tone does your blog's name justice. In the poem you talk about "how life has placed" your "surroundings in a bad spot", and that "Fate seems frightening and cold". Fate can often seem cruel, but I for one do not believe in fate, and you can truly do anything you actually strive for. Nothing is impossible in this world, and no matter how the "complexity of the future" might be, there is always potential and room for improvement. In the poem, you said that "hope is not enough, to propel me into life", and that may be true, and the journey might be "rough", but just know that it will all be worth it in the end, and you shouldn't be thinking OF your troubles, but how to OVERCOME them... This was a very deep and moving poem for me, because I sometimes feel the same way, about the complexity of the nearing future and missing the simple past that I allowed to slip by, without relishing it while I could.
Overall, this was a great poem, and I hope to see more of it...Good job!

WOW ! the speaker's words were able to get to me, and put me in a sad mood, I must agree with inja, the speakers seems like he dislikes the future, and all the reality he is forced to live, always remembering and reminiscing the "good old times" when life wasnt this tough and things were simpler. My fav line was the last one, "I keep thinking that the journey must be rough
And troubles will be rife." This is a really deep poem, i think that all of us in some state in our lives think that we can't overcome our problems, and we start to give up. However, we should keep in mind that we have to put on a smiling face, and focus on fixing things rather than surrendering and thinking you "cannot". Just like something has a problem, it can also have a solution. I simply loved this poem Tina ! great work !!
